Laura & JP's Jonnymoon - Day 3

It's late, I'm tired, and I need to pack for our 5 day road trip for tomorrow, so I will keep it quick. Photos from today are at: http://picasaweb.google.com/australialiterally/LauraJPSJonnymoonDay3

The day had a few good highlights. We went down to Cottesloe Beach. It was much calmer than the previous two days. Then headed to Freo and did some walking around the City. I ran into 3 crazy people .... and yes .... very crazy. Anyhow, the pictures say it all, highlights include Jimmy the Seagull, The Lost Croc, Fattest Pigeon EVER!, crazy guy 1 from Cottesloe, Bikini Girls massage, and Laura and Jon with their asian immigrant friends.

See you in a 5 days!

You say Xavier, I say EX-avier

Fresh off the election of his father Krudd (Kevin Rudd) as Prime Minister of Australia. Xavier Rudd (Xrudd) performed a concert in Fremantle last night. The place was jam packed with people .... and the marijuana was floating around. I think I got completely stoned and didn't even touch the stuff... just like Ross Rebagliatti .... it was either that, or I was just really hungry and sleepy .... The highlight was watching the security guards drag the offenders out of the crowds. I'd never heard of Xrudd, but he's really big here, and supposedly in Canada as well. He's a really good vocalist, and performed about 5 or 6 instruments. I struggle to just play one .... the ukulele. He was really anti John Howard, which is pretty obvious with the last name Rudd.

Other interesting facts about Xrudd: He doesn't wear shoes .... ever ! ..... ewwwww, I don't think i want to see the bottoms of his feet. He grew up in Torquay (tor-kay), Victoria. This fact alone makes me his new #1 fan as I went to Torquay Elementary School in a different kind of Victoria!!!!

A quiet Friday night here full of laundry and cleaning .... my sister Laura, and her husband JP are arriving to Perth for a one month tour of Australia on Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing family again. They will spend a week here, before heading to other parts of the country. I will then meet them in Sydney for Christmas and New Years.

Fremantle Prison

A group of 10 or so of us "tourists" (mostly canadians and brits) headed to Fremantle Prison to take the Prison Night Tour. We had to use flashlights to light our way, and let's just say it was scary as. They showed us the cells they slept in, the buckets they had to use to (well you know), the kitchen, the exercise yard. Some of the creepier areas were the solitary confinement cells, and of course the gallows. 44 people were hung in Fremantle Prison.

The gallows

They did do things to scare the hell out of you. Such as throwing pillows on top of you from the rafters, and having crazy guys in suits come screaming out of the cells. I think my favourite part of the tour was when Amy shut the door on someone going into a solitary confinement room. Classic!

After the tour, 10:45, we went out looking for some food and drinks...... not in Perth! Pubs close their kitchens, and you aren't allowed in, and then the only option is nightclubs. When will Perth enter the 20th century ..... then also move into the 21st century.

Getting the Haywire on ...... I had a headache for an hour cause of this

Freo & a Bike

Well I'm moving in to my new place tomorrow. I'm not sure what I'm going to do on the internet front, so we'll see what happens. Posts may become infrequent until I figure that out.....

Anyhow, I headed down to the port city of Fremantle yesterday. The locals call it Freo. It's a trendy cafe, shopping district built in an area that used to be just brick warehouse. It was some fun times. I walked around a bit and thought I saw the Sydney Opera House. I was very excited.

Unfortunately it was just the Maritime Museum..... Crikey! Major Disappointment. So I then headed off to meet up with my new girlfriend....

Ok. Well technically not. Replace "girl" with "television" .... and "friend" with "host". She still smiled at me. Mind you there might have been another camera directly in front of me. After that disappointment, I headed to the Bourne Supremacy. It premiered last week. I thought it already premiered when I was in Canada a month ago??? Anyway, good movie.

Today, I made the trek out to East Perth to look at a road bike for sale. Based on the RADAR i tried to time my trip so I could bike back in sunshine and not rain. On my way there it looked more like Vancouver, than what I thought Perth was going to be like.

I only got hit hard with wind and rain or about 1/4 of the trip, so not bad, and broke in the new "used" bike. I just hope it doesn't break :)
